The Rhododendron Song - a calling for spring on the hills of Darjeeling.

The Rhododendron is a beautiful flower that blooms in Darjeeling, a small and jolly hill town nestled amongst the mountainous regions of the Himalayas. It marks the end of the severe and harsh cold of winter, and signifies the coming of spring, where the folks of Darjeeling will be able to enjoy some warm sunlight for one or two months. This song is a surreal expression of that little feeling of optimism, that we folks from Darjeeling feel when we see the Rhododendron.

I wrote this song back in my school days. So it's almost like 10 years in the making. Of course it went through several changes. It even had a different tune earlier on. We started properly recording it last year sometime (that's 2019), with singer Chaitra Kalakrishnan & drummer Supreeth Kurthukoti. The mixing and mastering was done by Cyril Prince, and he has made it sound amazing. The video (and the cover for the single has been done by Yawan Sharma, and ya this is probably the best video I have ever had. So kudos to you, Yawan. The video is up on YouTube, so go check that out too.. And of course a lot of other people helped in the process, so thanks to you guys, you know who you are..

Thanks also to you guys for taking the time out to listen to my, and taking the time out to read this long description. You guys rock. Cheers. Would really help if you shared/liked/commented and most importantly showed my song to your friends in real life.

Cheers & Kudos. If you want to support me, please do consider buying the track. I will be making available on Bandcamp, Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Music, Saavn, and several other music platforms.

lyrics

Lyrics :

A whiff of Rho’dendron I sniff here at home
Breathe as I white clouds at heaven's blue dome
The water she comes out of her cosy foam
And pleads me to sail on till she finds good loam

The folks raise umbrellas on this sunny day
They cannot reason out why I do make hay
"The sun is a fake, rain shall come they say"
They're livin’ their lives in a pathetic way

But I shall go on, go touch the red sun
They shall stare in awe as this deed is done
They'll all come behind me just thinking it's fun
But touchin’ the sun, more men there'll be none

The cool breeze she whispers right into my ear
She whispers out soft, "Do you to me hear?"
My lover's sent for me, "Please do come my near
For when you're not near me, I do feel a fear"

I track down an old sail to find her alone
But as I caress her, her lips turn to stone
She speaks words that sound like her love never shone
As I break into her, I see her love grown

She breathes out a last time, a smile on her face
To die in my arms, she thinks is her ace
The world carries on, still a happy place
I still must sing on, on this bluesy bass
